I am a 23-year veteran of public education in Henrico, Virginia. I currently work at Quioccasin Middle School (which doesn't seem to be in Teacher Funders database at this time). I also DJ local school dances and other events, never asking for a penny as I know how tight school budgets can be and I want that money to go back to the kids. I also belong to a local band that often plays benefits for schools and educational facilities. I have loved watching my students grow up to be great people, helpful citizens, and positive contributors to their community. I've never asked for more than that, but lately, family health issues, mounting doctor co-pays and ridiculous prescription costs, and minimal state pay raises have made it harder for my family to meet their long term savings goals for college and retirement. I am not in a horrible place financially, but every so often when I want to buy extra pencils, or even tissues for my classroom, I have to hesitate due to budget issues. I often ask for parent donations, but our school demographics are changing, and many families in the area are struggling as well. I never ask students to bring in anything that I cannot supply for them myself, like highlighters, pencils, crayons, paper, etc.. I would love a bit of extra money in order to continue to work in public education, in addition to volunteering my media skills the way I have done for the past two decades. Thank you!
