Jeffrey Green

I am a 31 year old black man born and raised in the city of Chicago. In my 31 years, I have to discovered that children, regardless of where they are from, need to be surrounded by individuals that care about them and want to help them be their best selves. I have seen students that have lived through some of the most unimaginable circumstances in their lives (such as the loss of parents or siblings due to gun violence) be able to stay focused and determined to be successful because of people around them. Then there is my story.

My parents got divorced when I was in middle school. Outside of the experience, my life was great. I had two supportive parents, participated in countless extra curricular activities and a bunch of friends. However, my parents divorce left a very deep wound on me at the time as it fundamentally altered my foundation. What got me throught it was middle school and high school teachers that truly cared about me as a person, not just a student. That experience is what drives me to teach and to be for this generation of students what I recieved as a student.
