As a little girl, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher. I would stand at my wooden chalkboard in my room and 'teach" my group of stuffed animals lined up along the wall. Finally, I accepted my first teaching position in the year 2004 eager to change lives. It hasn't been a fairy tale by any means and has been challenging, but I am thankful for my time in the classroom and the relationships built with so many special students. I begin my 16th year of teaching next week! Luckily, I have had the opportunity to work with thousands of students over the years in many different content areas, including: science, music, dramatic and visual arts, English Language Arts, and special education. This year I am returning to the science classroom and couldn't be more excited! My approach in teaching is to connect with each student in a unique way and allow and encourage them to explore using strategies and resources that work for each individual. My purpose is to provide a structure which fosters creativity, exploration, and discovery, while introducing new learning and guiding students through the process. I believe every student is unique and has his/her own ways of learning. Part of my intention daily is to help each of them find his/her individual styles and strategies and foster an environment where they feel successful and hopeful. One of the most rewarding experiences is witnessing a student connect the dots and make sense of the concepts taught.
