We are a 4th grade class in an area that has a wide range of economics, and although the parents are very generous, asking for technology in the classroom is beyond what can be donated.
Technology is just part of everyday learning and shouldn't have to be scheduled for a weekly computer lab spot!
STEM Learning with technology is part of the shift in learning, and a 21st century student is expected to be able to have, and use, technology at their finger tips. Technology has to be available in the classroom, not just in a lab.
We are doing all we can to become the 21st century learners that the Common Core is leaning towards, but with 3 kids on each Chromebook, the individual child doesn't get much time with technology in their hands. Most children have access to some sort of technology at home, but to meet the needs of all children, and to provide extra support for those that need it in class, technology would be helpful. In our classroom, we are trying to become more skilled at word processing, safe-search web research, and group project based learning.
When it comes to enrichment projects, I am always on the lookout in how to make learning more hands on and creative. I try as much as possible to get out of the textbooks and put the learning into the hands of the children. Either through technology projects, group projects, or artistic avenues of learning, it all enhances the child's experience and having them commit the facts to memory. With donations to the classroom, I can do all the projects and hands on learning that I believe children need...to get them away from just pencil and paper types of work.
