Hello, I am a Band Director at a High School employed by Baltimore City Schools for over 10 years. There is often a lot of negative press associated with my current school system. It is no secret that my district and city is plagued with violence, severe poverty and the consistent disenfranchisement of some of our city's most defenseless citizens, our youth.
I currently teach instrumental music to a unique all girl public school population. We strive for the best as a band program however often I cannot provide my students with everything they need to be a successful student-musician. I purchase school supplies, clothes, food, transportation and even instruments so no one excluded from participating in my program.
We often surpass the standard even on a state level when it comes to.muaic performance. My band students often earn scholarships to continue their education as a developing musicians in university band programs throughout the region. Please help me continue to provide my band girls with the things they need to be successful.
I'm raising money to purchase some big ticket items that I need to take my students to the next level of performance. We need a pair of timpani drums retail about 6k, a new marimba about $2500 (our old one has no legs and we are propping it up with a desk chair), and a xylophone about $2500 new.
