I am entering my 18th year of teaching in the same school district. This will be my 8th year teaching Kindergarten and I absolutely love it. The best thing about teaching Kindergarten is watching the students' excitement as they learn something new, especially in reading.
Recently I attended the "Get Your Teach On" virtually. One of the sessions mentioned how a majority of childrens books are not representative of all cultures. If they do have an African-American child in the book, the child is often in the middle of some type of strife. I want to show my students that that is not always the case. After participating in this session I decided to make it my goal this year to teach my students to love and embrace everyone in the world. Then the world climate changed and I feel it is more important than ever.
