About
Long story short...I have been teaching students with Intellectual Disabilities since 2004 (teaching since 2001). Since 2007, I have been working with Jr High & High School students, primarily in the area of transition. Since then, my dream has been to provide an off-site location for my program, to provide additional real-life experiences to increase generalization & skill transfer. In fall 2018, my district (Waupun Area School District- YAY!!!!) purchased a fixer upper for my program & the Waubun Transition Academy became a reality!!
Funding tends to always be an issue; therefore, I often spend my own money on both my classroom areas (I have 2 rooms at school- a simulated "Apartment" & "Classroom" area) & materials at our new transition house- The Waubun Transition Academy.
Funds raised will go directly to these areas & my students. Things I would love to purchase include:
HOUSE- A new, multiple slice toaster, Keurig, tile backsplash for the kitchen, additional smart products for the home, including smart blinds, a patio & patio furniture, perennial plants, (future SheShed??!) updated gaming system, lawn care items
CLASSROOMS- Sensory items, flexible seating, updated dining table/chairs, & new prevocational tasks/supplemental educational materials
Additionally, last year we secured a grant for $25,000 (Awesome!) to fund a handicap-accessible van! Now we just need to find/purchase one, then my future hope is to renovate or rebuild a garage on site.
Big dreams = Bright futures!!
Thanks for your support!
