About

Hi! My name is Amanda Engelman, and I am a 2nd year teacher teaching 6th through 12th grade students in an alternative education setting. Many of my students come from unstable home lives, living with relatives or foster parents. While our school district offers free breakfast and lunch to all students, the quantity is usually very small, especially for some of my older students, and many of them forego some of the options because they do not like them. This results in students who are hungry, but most won't tell you that. I'd love to be able to keep my classroom stocked with extra food to supplement their breakfast and lunch choices. I'd also like to be able to send food home with students over weekends or breaks if they need it. Beyond food, there are other things that many of my students need such as personal hygiene items and school supplies. We could also use materials for life skills lessons, something that all of our students can benefit from. As a new teacher in a small district, my pay isn't very high (not that any teacher is getting what they're worth), and I can't afford to provide these things for all of my students, so any help would be appreciated!
