This will be my 4th year of teaching, and all 4 years have been in title 1 schools. Title 1 schools are amazing in their own ways but full of challenges at the same time. The amazing parts of title 1 schools are hands down, the students; they are full of life, love, compassion, grit, and so much more. I love title 1 students and can't see myself leaving title 1 schools. These kids need a caring adult, someone who will understand their struggles, someone who cares about them and loves them, someone who is there for them when they need, someone who will go above and beyond. And that's who I want to be; I want to be that caring adult for every student in my classroom. However, more often than not, us teachers are spent teaching these life skills and social/emotional skills to students while also trying to teach them academics, which has challenges in its own ranging from behavioral issues, lack of resources, not enough time, etc. Within title 1 schools, one of the biggest challenges for myself is the lack of resources and funding for students. Teachers are often not given funds to supply materials for their own classroom and students, which everyone knows we end up doing- it gets expensive and adds up quickly. Being able to receive donations for my classroom would mean the world to me and help my students so much more than I'll be able to on my own.
