a child is like a butterfly in the wind. some can fly higher than others; but each one flies the best it can. why compare one against the other? each one is different. each one is special. each one is beautiful.
Years of experience
Students this year
I love teaching and finding creative ways to create strong readers and writers. I use my previous work experience to introduce real world assessments and activities such as journalism and advertising to my students.
I also enjoy creating a comfortable, homey atmosphere in my classroom where students want to be. I have previously purchased all my decor and repurposed old furniture for my classroom since the middle school teachers do not receive any funds for our rooms. I will be moving to a new classroom (without any windows) this year, so I appreciate any help I can get to help my students.
I began teaching after working in advertising and as a newspaper reporter. I taught high school communications and middle-school reading for several years before I took some time off to raise my three kiddos. I returned to teaching when they started school and have been teaching middle school Language Arts for nine years. I also coach cross country, and have been a Student Council advisor and track coach in the past.
How will funding help my students?
My 6th grade students will be able to have supplies and organizers to help create a clean and structured environment. I will also be able to purchase a variety of Language Arts teaching tools and activities for different learning styles. I will be teaching students who have learning disabilities so I need to help them with individualized tools and books of different reading levels.
Number of students who will be impacted: 75
