I am a proud mom of a Deaf child. He inspired me to learn American Sign Language and become an Interpreter. Now I have been given the blessing of being an American Sign Language teacher! We currently have over 300 students taking American Sign Language as their Foreign Language requirement for college. We are in need of many tools to maken instruction the highest quality possible. We need things like 12 feet of portable platforms (8 inches high) to accommodate teaching a large classroom of students. We need enough text books so that students can each have one to use. We need tools to teach Deaf Culture..opportunities to take trips to visit and experience State schools for the Deaf. To walk in the places the people of Deaf history have walked as they forged the path to establish schools for the Deaf, to establish ASL as an official language and to establish laws that support equal access for everyone.
I want a world where Deaf people are seen as no different from those who wear glasses to improve their vision. I want a world where Deaf people have the same opportunities to be active participants in their communities without discrimination.
