I am a third-grade teacher within the Penn Trafford School District and have been there for 14 years! I am an avid gardener, organizer, and loving dog mama too.
Teaching children and watching them grow is my passion. It is an amazing opportunity that not everyone has. Throughout the day I teach reading, math, writer's workshop, and social studies. My main goal as a teacher is to help them thrive academically, socially, and personally by setting goals. My students need to be engaged in their learning in order for it to be of interest. This means I try and use as many different types of teaching and learning as I can! My classroom is a more modern style as I use flexible seating which means the kiddos get to choose the type of chair, table, and learning space that suits them throughout the day. By implementing this technique and by making my teaching more hands-on and STEM-based my students thrive and want to keep learning. I hope to continue to add to my engaging materials in order to keep learning fun and that is why I need your help!
How will funding help my students?
\"Can we work together on this?\" These words are ones that we hear most often when working during the day in any curriculum subject. There is no better way to learn from one another and demonstrate an understanding of academic skills all at once. Collaboration through the use of guided reading and math provides self-esteem and academic growth for ALL students while differentiating groups or teaching a whole class together. In 3rd grade, we cover all curriculum areas and strive to bring interest while the rigor becomes more intense. We are extremely hopeful that the use of an \"extension cart\" would bring ALL types of learners together and raise their self-esteem and engagement across the board.
The use of these requested math and reading materials will enhance our various teaching techniques while promoting independent learning in our students. They will give us the chance to target all types of student learners and provide them with the opportunity of \'choice\'. Without the extra manipulatives and resources, we are not as able and free with \'our choice\' as teachers to provide our students with their opportunity to learn as they feel comfortable. As we make a \'CORE Transformation\' we want to provide students with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful now and in the future. With this transformation, there is a higher skill set and there are more expectations being associated with this new initiative. These materials would allow both teachers and students to better delve into the reading and mathematics curriculum each and every day. They will be implemented during whole class, small group, and one-on-one instruction These learning tools will also be used throughout the entire school day because some will provide access for self-teaching/checking, hands-on-learning centers, and \'move at your own pace\' problem-solving activities. The reading supplies selected contain the key skills for 3rd grade and would be integrated throughout the day. This will help the 3rd-grade team Transform to a Mass Customized Learning approach in reading; which is our GOAL for the future. Mathematics resources would be implemented and applied as an enhancement to each topic. They would also be readily available for PSSA state testing prep or unit testing review.
