“Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”
Years of experience
Students this year
I am an ELA teacher at a small rural high school in Southwest Louisiana.
Not only do I think it’s important for students to learn how to evaluate poetry or write a literary analysis, but become well-rounded adults who are open-minded and accepting. This is why discussion is so imperative in my classroom.
Donations will be used to help encourage those collective discussions.
How will funding help my students?
Think back to your high school career; there was nothing scarier than getting called on by your teacher. I want to offer a comfortable atmosphere that encourages active participation.
This year, I would like to offer flexible seating in my classroom to encourage choice, community, and commitment to learning. Research shows that students participate 48% more in class discussions when in collaborate groups.
Donations will be used to purchase standing desk/tables, bean bag chairs, group station organizers, etc. Any money left over will be used on student supplies for the group stations.
