Hi, I am a small town elementary school teacher. I graduated from college late in life after raising 4 of my 5 sons. I still have one more to go and he is in middle school.

This is my 8th year teaching. I started off in Kindergarten for 4 years, which I absolutely LOVED. I work at a very small school so I had to be moved to fill a math position in the 4th-5th grades for a couple years. While this was quite an experience, I am very happy to be back in first grade for the second year in a row.

I love to research new ways to engage my students. Attention (right behind behavior) seems to be one of the main reasons my students struggle to succeed. I enjoy teaching and hope to positively change lives everyday.

"Children need to move. Flexible seating allows them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow and core strength. In turn, this burns more calories and increases metabolism. It also helps keep young minds more alert and focused. It’s no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior. "”

What will the funds be used for

I am starting flexible/alternative seating this year to help with students in my first grade classroom. This requires me to have different types of tables, seating and clipboards for the students to use. I have researched this method and feel confident this will help my students to learn better by helping then have more attention/focus, less restlessness, and increased participation. I am so excited to see the results of this change!
