Common questions about TeacherFunder
If you’re like most teachers, you’ve considered using crowdfunding at one time or another for something along your teaching career. We’re here to bring donors to all teachers while teachers spread the word about their individual profile.
Reviewing some of the most common concerns others have had can give you a better understanding as to what to expect. After reviewing these questions, you won’t feel as intimidated the next time you consider using crowdfunding services.
How does crowdfunding on TeacherFunder work?
It’s really a very simple process.
First, you sign up and set up your account and fundraising profile just like you would do on any social media site. The difference here is that you also tell your story. Sharing the reason you set up your profile will encourage friends, family, parents, businesses and other local or national donors to contribute to you and to share your story with others.
Is crowdfunding safe?
Security is a primary concern for any website that deals with financial transactions. For your own sense of security, you can check the address bar on your browser for the green padlock, denoting a secure connection.
Additionally, crowdfunding sites employ highly advanced security features to protect donors as they contribute to your fundraising profile. Since we use Stripe (a payment processor for processing debit or credit cards), you can be sure your transactions are safe. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry.
When can I receive my funds?
As long as the transaction is successful, funds will be paid out every night at midnight. However, you must have a Stripe account for the payment to occur.
What can the funding be used for?
Teachers can use the funding for anyway they see fit. Already, over 90% of teachers spend their own money on school supplies, projects, field trips and other things. That’s right! There are no restrictions on what the funds are used for.
Are fundraiser profiles confined to a specific time limit?
The short answer is no. However, at the beginning of every school year all goals will be set to zero. Teachers can keep their fundraising profile for years to come and even change their employment status to “retired” when they retire.
Does TeacherFunder charge users?
Setting up and operating your account is entirely free. Donors will be charged a small percentage to donate, however.
Generally, donors should expect to be charged 2.9% plus $0.30 per donation. This is a common processing fee that goes to cover the costs of keeping the site secure and free to use for teachers.
How does TeacherFunder earn a profit?
Keeping the site free to use comes with operational costs, but those expenses are paid through the transaction fees charged to donors.
Additionally, donors can tip the site as a means of supporting the what we do and our mission. Since these services benefit everyone in need, offering a tip is something we welcome to help enhance the site and earn a profit. Donors do NOT have to leave a tip.
How does a goal affect your ability to raise and collect donations?
Even if you never reach your goal amount, we allow the withdrawal of all funds received. Once an amount has been donated, it’s yours to keep.
Additionally, you can continue raising money even after your donation goals have been reached. A meter will show users that the target goal has been reached, but they will still have the option of donating to your teaching profile.
How do I attract donors?
TeacherFunder offers free marketing tips to all teachers. As you start out, you should look for opportunities to share your profile with friends, parents, and relatives. By updating your profile and sharing news about your needs, you’ll inspire donors to contribute and to share your story.
How can you be sure you’re receiving every donation?
We employ a team of technicians to monitor the system to ensure donations are going to the right teacher. Between this type of human monitoring and cybersecurity systems, the chances of an error are very remote. If a mistake does happen, contact us.
Can someone else set up a profile in your name?
Yes, it possible. It’s important to ensure you set up payout information on Stripe. This ensures you can withdraw donations via a secure wire transfer. Also, if you believe someone is using your name please be sure to contact us; please include a photo copy of your identification card.
Is TeacherFunder available in every country?
No, we only provide our services in the United States.
We’re here to bring donors to you and our mission is to help you receive the funding you need!
