Science, teaching, and helping children understand and see their potential is my passion. I feel it is important for children to learn that we need to take care of what we have. This means instilling in them good stewardship, work ethic, and respect for oneself, surroundings, and each other. Teaching is my calling not just my job.

What will the funds be used for

I teach at a TITLE I school. This is my second year teaching, but my first year as a S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) Specialist. I teach elementary students, K-5.

Since I do teach at a Title I school I have decided to implement a school-wide garden to help cultivate respect for themselves, their community, families, and the planet they live on. This means we need some supplies to help get us started such as, but not limited to; soil, seeds, gardening tools, and composting.

We are also going to raise salmon (about 50+ eggs worth) that will be released into a local stream in the spring. Therefore, we do need a few things for that such as, a tank.

Because I am a second year teacher I am lacking in certain supplies (and funds) to outfit my classroom such as, but not limited to; composition books, bins, and engineering supplies (building materials).

Additionally, I would like to provide great field trip and guest speaker opportunities that will help grow their love for science.

My goal for this year (and every year) is to help my students understand they are part of a community (something larger than themselves), interconnected and share a symbiotic relationship with one another and nature, they CAN make things better, to be proud of what they can accomplish (hard work is worth the time and effort), and most Importantly they are DESTINED FOR GREATNESS.
