I am a science teacher at a high school that has more than 75% economically disadvantaged students. I want all of my students to feel welcome and prepared in my classroom, so I try to make sure that I have both school and personal supplies readily available. Many high school students have a tendency to lose supplies, and this also factors into the amount of pencils, composition books, paper, and calculators we go through.
My teaching style involves many differentiated activities (manipulatives, role playing, arts and crafts, flash cards, escape rooms, and games) which require a lot of materials such as laminating sheets, cardstock, glue, and scissors.
I find that I have very little trouble keeping my students engaged, and I just want to keep expanding my activities and rigor to keep them interested and learning.
