I started teaching almost by accident in 2015. I was a few months out of college, 22 years old, and had no idea what I wanted to do. I happened upon my first teaching job in the local newspaper, and from there, I've been working with high schoolers ever since. I have a passion for history, English, and reading, and that's something I've been keen to inspire in my students as well.
I have been teaching for almost five years, and while some years have been more dynamic than others, one thing has remained clear to me: I am in the right place when I am in a room full of people who are learning to love books as much as I do.

What will the funds be used for
I teach three classes of English 1, one regular and two honors. Each class has varied reading levels and interests, and for Christmas this year, I'd like them to participate in a White Elephant book exchange. I also thought this would be a great way to get the community involved in providing local students with the chance to receive a gift of their very own. Since we're coming up on the holiday season, I thought this would make a great gift from me to them. The things is, brand new books are expensive. I want my kids to know, at least once, the joy of holding a brand new book in their hands and opening it for the first time. In addition, my students participate in a quarterly assignment to read one independent novel and give a detailed report on it. I would like to provide them with a bigger variety of things to read.
The money I raise will be used to purchase one brand new set of popular young adult novels for each of my three English classes. I am hoping to have raised enough funds to supplement this purchase by December 15th.
