Hi. I'm Ms. J. I feel that teachers make the biggest impact in a teenager's life, if they are allowed to make a connection. Sharing food with my students has always provided us with a very communal atmosphere and vibe. We discuss history and different perspectives in the IB program. It is fun and helpful when we incorporate food and music that was popular during the era and location we are discussing. As the English as a Second Language program Coordinator, providing a safe and welcoming environment is critical in developing secure and trusting relationships, especially with new comers. We have fiestas throughout the year for various milestones and celebrations. I do not have a supply budget, so I buy everything myself. I also provide all of the food that we eat because I teach in a district with 85% free and reduced lunches, so cannot ask for student donations. So, I am asking the generous public for assistance. As a single mother of a teenage boy, and with the recent increase in prices of goods, it has become impossible for me to afford food for my classroom.
