LOS CABALLEROS DISTINGUIDOS
As a mother of three boys and educator for 14 years, I often see the need to instill positive moral and social values in our young boys. I always remind them that it’s the little things that count. Opening doors for your elders (or anyone for that matter), helping someone if they dropped something, greeting someone with a firm handshake while looking them in the eye, and just saying ‘good morning’ all seem to be a lost art. This need inspired me to launch an after-school program called “Los Caballeros Distinguidos” (The Distinguished Gentlemen) at Briscoe Elementary in San Antonio, TX, where I teach. Briscoe's IB Spanish educator Dr. Davila has enthusiastically accepted to help build this next generation of distinguished gentlemen by hosting all meetings. Through this endeavor, we strive to empower all of Briscoe’s young men to embody our mission statement.
***Los Caballeros Distinguidos (The Distinguished Gentlemen)*** is a service-oriented, school-sponsored program at Briscoe Elementary in which we focus on instilling positive values and teaching professional communication skills to our students. In addition to providing students with formal attire (such as neckties and dress shirts), we offer students an opportunity to take on leadership roles at our campus including peer-to-peer mentoring, helping coordinate student functions, and participating in community outreach projects.
Our emphasis of community service, honesty, self-discipline in and out of the classroom, and humility, help us reinforce the value of being a well-rounded individual capable of advocating for himself and others. To this end, we believe the skills they learn in our program are just as important and beneficial to their development as the academic skills they practice while in class.

What will the funds be used for
We have seen how formal attire can raise self-worth. Students seem to have an extra spring in their step and hold their heads a little higher when they are presenting their best selves to the world.
By contributing to our fundraiser, you will help ensure students have access to the supplies and clothing they will need, help us secure guest speakers from the community to give talks about leadership, professionalism, and success, and help us continue to develop our community outreach projects. Please consider donating.
