AMANDA MORRIS

@amandammorris

I was hired as an Intern Teacher for this next school year and will have responsibility for my own classroom and students. I will be teaching FT, and will be simultaneously continuing in my credential program. (yowza!).

The classroom I've been hired to teach is a Special Day Class. I'll be in charge of preschoolers ages 3-5 who have qualified for Special Education services. The primary diagnosis for most of my students will likely be Autism, but I will have students qualifying for services due to various reasons.

My purpose in asking for help is because, as with most educator positions, in my preschool I am expected to provide all sorts of materials to equip my classroom. Because this classroom provides relatively new and specialized education, and my school district (which serves primarily low-income households) can not afford to reimburse me for much of the items I will need, I'm asking for your help. The school will provide the basics: construction paper, glue sticks, scissors, etc. Not supplied are the toys, puzzles, books, or the materials to create educational activities and teaching units.

The families in the community surrounding my new school often do not have the funds to take their kids to fun places to have new experiences. These excursions are twice as hard if their child has a disability of some kind. The responsibility to teach the students academically as well as introduce and teach them about the world in general is a big part of the Early Childhood teaching staff.

I am extremely grateful for this opportunity of course, there is no other work I would rather do with my life! But, my husband and I did not expect this teaching position at this time and are not financially prepared to fund this expense. I am prepared to start the school year with minimal equipment and plan to build my classroom resources over time. However, I would appreciate any help you may be able to offer towards building an effective classroom to teach these amazing students.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your consideration! I want to provide the most successful and positive environment for all of my future students!
