I began in art as a kid who was always having to move. No matter how many homes we went to, art was a class I could count on being there. I loved the therapeutic aspect as well and it got me through many of the tougher parts of my childhood. I knew I wanted to be that person for someone else.
I studied Art Education at the University of North Texas, a top school for Art Ed and graduated with honors. My passion has always been with the kids who need the most love! My first job out of school was working in a behavior adjustment unit. From there I eas asked to establish the first ever visual art program at an all boys middle school in the 5th Ward. My husband was transferred to the Texas/Mexico border and I spent several years as an elementary teacher and a middle school teacher. After his final transfer back to the DFW metroplex I landed at a high school in the eastern part of the area. I established a metals and glass program at my campus, specialize in 3D mediums, and Printmaking. I also sponsor the art club and have a group of students who I mentor in contests and scholarship opportunities.

What will the funds be used for
Our campus is Title 1. Many of my students are on free lunch and their families struggle to keep up with their class fees and things they need.
My goal with this funding opportunity is to create a STEAM lab where students can explore entry level robotics/electronics and art. I'd like to outfit the lab with some breadboards, sensors, microcontrollers, and servos.
I'd also like to begin a scholarship program for my lowest income students. I could provide kits for my families who struggle to help their children take advanced classes including paying for their AP portfolios. It would also cover contest fees and traveling expenses for our artists who make State/National exhibits.
