Years of experience
Students this year
I first started teaching when I graduated college in 2013. I was hired as a SETSS (Special Education Teacher Support Services) teacher and worked as such for 6 years. In that 6 years I taught mostly 3rd and 4th grade, but spent a year with 5th and 6th graders as well. For two of these years I was also the Special Education Coordinator for my entire K-10 (soon to be K-12) charter school. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in this charter school, especially since the school leaders were always looking for innovative ways to transform student lives. One example of this is the time and money our school leaders spent in sending teams of teachers to the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, which is famous for encouraging student growth through engagement. I left this professional development with many ideas for room transformations and educational games, and I look forward to making turning those ideas into a reality this upcoming school year as an ICT teacher in the DOE.
How will funding help my students?
Ive been teaching Special Education students in small groups since 2013 but this is my first year sharing a whole classroom of 5th grade students! I am looking for donations to help transform my room into a comfortable, safe and engaging space with multiple options for seating, reading, and independent work. With your donations I will buy items such as different types of cushions and chairs, books of all levels and interests, manipulatives. And center activities. Thank you in advance !
Number of students who will be impacted: 27
