I grew up attending Long Beach schools. I had excellent teachers that inspired me to teach. Since I can remember I wanted to be a teacher and would set up my own little classroom in our laundry room. My dad supported my dream to be a teacher. He bought me a little chalkboard and hung it on the wall. One birthday, he gifted me a little white metal bell with a red rose on it-all teachers need a bell to get the students' attention. My parents always valued education and supported us even when money was tight. They took pride in our accomplishments and when I graduated from college, I was the first in my family to do so. I was lucky enough to get hired at my elementary school where I taught for 15 years in the room that was my own 2nd grade classroom. Teaching is truly a work of heart and it's rewarding to know you are making a difference in children's lives each day. I grew up attending Long Beach schools.
