Years of experience
Students this year
I have been teaching in the same small Florida district for 14 years. I started teaching high school science at the age of 21 with no experience. I quickly realized that teaching was my passion. Since then, I have taught science to 5th graders, 6th graders, 8th graders, 9th graders, and coached elementary science teachers for 2 years. This coming school year, I will be returning to 9th grade teaching Leadership at my high school Alma mater. My husband, who is also a teacher, has taught Leadership for the past 14 years at another local high school. Together, our hope is to impact the youth of our rural county and have a positive effect on their future.
How will funding help my students?
Being a teacher in 2019 is hard, but being a student is harder. This year, my 14th, will be full of fresh starts and new strategies. A new school, a new subject, and new faces await! I will be teaching Leadership at Avon Park High School, a rural high school where the great majority of students receive free and reduced lunch. My goal is to create a safe, homey environment in which I can build relationships and teach my kids the skills essential to a successful life, no matter their current circumstances. Being funded would allow for the purchase of brand-new, research-based curriculum and the creation of a classroom in which students feel safe and loved.
Number of students who will be impacted: 150
