Months of experience
Students this year
I am a second-generation teacher who saw the benefit a good educator could have on children. My mother inspired her students, who 15 years later, still say she was one of the best teachers and helped them aspire to exceed expectations and become true future leaders.
I joined Teach for America because I believe in equity education and that if students have the right resources and excellent teachers, they can break any social or economic class and truly contribute to a better environment.
If I’m not in the classroom, I’m usually having fun by going climbing outdoors, camping, or planning the next destination I’ll be going to around the world. Despite everywhere I’ve been, nothing still beats a good NYC slice of pizza. Maybe I’m biased.
How will funding help my students?
I’m a Global History teacher and I love history because with the more exploration one experiences, the greater their growth. My vision for my classroom is one that not only cultivates that learning for exploration but that's a safe space. Some of my kids have gone through real hardships, come into class hungry and still try their best to be amazing future leaders. An example of one of my students days could run anywhere from “Mr. Clare, do you have anything to eat, I have no food at home”, to, “Mr. Clare, I don’t want to eat the shelter food It breaks my heart because these are amazing kids.
It's my ultimate goal to not only provide food to students but provide it in an educational way. They say in Italian culture, “most of life revolves around the family I want to not only make their basic need fun but link it to many different cultures across the world. On days we cover specific regions, I would like to bring some of the grains, foods, and hopefully, desserts that could open their minds and taste buds.
Travel and foreign experiences are necessary for helping children understand different perspectives and give them the courage to explore the world. Successful leaders have understood that it is sometimes limiting staying in one place. Since none of my kids have actually left the United States, I want to bring those parts of the world to them. The world is larger than their neighborhoods and I want to create that lens for them.
