Welcome! I am a deeply passionate teacher who dedicates every minute I can to help foster the love of learning in my students. I strive to create life-long avid readers, mathematicians, problem solvers, musicians, historians, writers, scientists, economists, informed citizens, geographers, and engineers - just to name a few! I consistently attend conferences and professional developments to improve my craft in order to be successful for my students. Some recent professional developments I have been lucky enough to be involved with include -Mentorship for new teachers, Project GLAD (Guided Language Acquisition Design) that aims to help teachers provide differentiated strategies to integrate instruction in English and grade-level content in a heterogeneous, mainstream classroom, GATE - Meeting the needs of of Gifted and Talented Students, and the Autry Teacher Summer Institute, where I was able to delve deeply into the new C-3 Social Studies Standards and create compelling questions for my students. With looming budget cuts, I will no longer receive funds to continue to do this. I am also a voracious reader of educational books. My favorite to this day is "The Book Whisperer," that urges teachers to get back to fostering authentic reading for pleasure in children. There are so many books I would love to be able to purchase to help me more knowledgeable about best practices for my students. I would love your help!

My students are rock stars from the moment they walk into my room. They feed off my energetic enthusiasm, and I try to make sure they are engaged from the moment I greet them. I let them know that they matter to me, that my door is always open, and that I will always be here for them no matter what. I encourage them to 'pay it forward' to others, because we never know what battles others are fighting. I care about their well-being and happiness, because kids can NOT learn when they are stressed out. Our students have way too many things on their minds nowadays that take away from their learning and amazing opportunities. I work hard to teach them Growth Mindset and Mindfulness to relieve the anxiety that comes with today's fast-paced world. It's up to us to hoist them away from their concerns and anxiety into a place of inspiration, imagination, and innovation! I have the best career because my students make me laugh every day and teach me more lessons some days than I teach them. I work in a supportive school community of parents, colleagues, and administrators, and I ensure that our classroom environment reflects that same support and love!

In 1930, Albert Einstein stated, "School failed me...I wanted to learn what I wanted to know, but they wanted me to learn for the exam...Because of this, I wasn't worth anything, and several times they suggested I leave. " I want my students to have choice in what and how they learn, and never feel that school 'failed' them. Thomas Edison is known for asking too many questions, in fact, so many that his own mother had to home school him because the teacher thought there was something wrong with him! I welcome and encourage those questions in my classroom.

Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the By education, I believe he means more than sitting in a classroom with textbooks and a teacher lecturing. A true education includes learning about multiple cultures, beliefs, ideas, and opinions. Participating in dialogue with others, not just those in our community, can enlighten our students to see the world outside of their bubbles. I want my students to follow their passions, Skype with experts, learn how to research safely and objectively on the internet, be an effective participant in dialogue with others, remain open to various ideas and views, and CREATE change.
There are a myriad of opportunities on-line that will INSPIRE my students in ways, but we need computers to access them. One pathway is Thrively, which "identifies each student's strengths and interests to unlock their potential and increase overall classroom Students embark on a student-centered journey of self-awareness, finding purpose, building on their unique skills, and then creating an impact. Reflections on their journey through digital portfolios can be shared with others to CONNECT and build skills for real-world problem solving. Another engaging pathway is EverFi, which partners with educators to provide game-based lessons for students on tackling real-world problems. The lessons include Financial Literacy, STEM, Social and Emotional Learning, and Cultural Literacy, to name a few. Thanks for reading my profile and for helping us reach our goal to make our classroom the best place on Earth!
