Years of experience
Students this year
I am a Special Educator in Brooklyn, NY in a Consortium Middle and High School. I have taught 9th & 12th grade English, 6th grade Science, and 9th-12th grade Psychology. This upcoming year is my 4th year teaching and will be teaching 6th & 8th grade Social Studies. My task as a "SpEd" is to ensure that children's educational needs are met through equitable means and there are supports are in place.
My prior career, where I worked for 7 years, was a CPS worker, investigating child abuse/neglect. My whole life has been engulfed by the welfare of children but after my son's Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis and implementation of services I knew my skill set would be better used to serve the special needs population,
How will funding help my students?
Because I am a Special Educator, I must ensure that all my student's special education needs are met. This can be in the form of visual aids, color coding, scaffolded work, tangibles, and sensory devices. My students' have a range of needs from Autism and ADHD to speech and learning disabilities.
Number of students who will be impacted: 10
