Years of experience
Students this year
I am going into my 3rd year teaching at a continuation school for credit recovery and am proud to see these students grow and thrive. Often times, if not most times, the students who come to my high school already have a negative mindset and "understand" they are already judged, but are never looked at as just average kids who deserve a second chance. My colleagues and I try to give just that. A second chance, and push all judgment to the side. We understand that most often these young adults just need a little bit of guidance, attention, and a different form of support than they were receiving at their other high school. They need someone to understand they come from all walks of life, in which a large percentage come from low income homes, are homeless, or in foster care. Most students don't have school supplies like pencils and paper, and often times will save their school lunch to take home so they have something to eat. Having tissues in the classroom is a luxury and having 1-1 attention is a rarity. I hope to raise enough funds year after year to ensure that my students can have the necessary supplies aside from the $200 budget we teachers are given each year, but also so they may partake in the high school lifestyle that other schools provide, including a worthy prom. These students realize they are on their last leg and work so very hard to graduate on time. The least we can do is provide them with the tools, love, and compassion that shows them we all care about their wellbeing as well as their education.

Thank you Cadie Johnson for your donation. It is most appreciated.
How will funding help my students?
Funding will help provide supplies for projects, contribute to student government activities, and will help fund prom for a school with low income families.
