I am the Early Childhood Special Education Teacher in my county, & I serve all children with disabilities from 3 years old to school age. I've found teaching Special Education Preschool to be my "calling". I went to school to become an English teacher (secondary), but after teaching for a year, I took a year off & studied to expand my certification to include K-12 Special Education. I got a job teaching a K-3 self contained classroom, where I remained and for 5 years. I loved my position VERY much, but, when the Preschool position became available, my Supervisor said I was the woman for the job. I warily accepted, and began what would turn out to be the best year of my teaching career. I love Preschool! I am the teacher who spends hours changing out Dramatic Play props. I buy planet & astronaut earrings to wear for our Space theme, and scour the internet for gently used equipment just because I know one particular student would benefit from it greatly. Seeing my students learn through play, and make the HUGE transformation from toddlers to school-ready children is the most rewarding thing I can ever imagine myself doing.

What will the funds be used for

I am requesting 2 years subscription to ESGI assessment software. This software allows the teacher to assess electronically and provides data interpretation. For instance after testing all students on letters and sounds the program will determine the least known letter for the whole class.

With this software the teacher is able to easily identify and target student and class wide weaknesses. The teacher can identify and reteach the needed standards allowing for a more personalized education plan for each student.

By donating to our class project you will be helping 25 special needs Preschool students in a low income area to succeed. This software will help the teacher to ensure that these children bridge the gaps in their development.
