basic supplies are the backbone of education
Years of experience
Students this year
My students come from low income neighborhoods. The majority of the students that attend the high school that I teach will be either the first to finish high school or the first in their families to consider college. Many of the students that come into my Geometry class have failed Algebra as a freshmen, and are continuously struggling in math. Majority of these students are of Hispanic decent, or African american, as well as do not speak English Fluently and are taking ELL classes. Some of these students lack stability in their home and the only stable environment that they have is in my classroom. Parents often have two sometimes three jobs, which make it difficult for parents to contribute to academics.
How will funding help my students?
My Students are coming from low income, minority homes are lacking basic materials such as high lighters, glue, scissors, tape.
These basic supplies are used every day in the classroom. I have bought some of these materials myself. But they get expensive, especially with teaching 160 students per day. I would like to ensure my students receive the basic supplies that are needed to succeed in the classroom.
I use interactive notebooks in the classroom for mathematics.
I use foldables, skeleton notes, and cutouts to help students understand mathematics. We also use games in the classroom that students make. Students make posters and work in group assignments together.
