Years of experience
Students this year
I have always loved working with children and, for the longest time, thought I wanted to be a pediatrician! However, after spending time in a hospital environment, I realized that wasn't the right fit for me and began rethinking my career choice and looking into graduate school for a masters in education. While figuring out whether I wanted to teach elementary or high school, I was a full time math tutor in a Chicago Public High School and worked with many EL students (English Learners). Inspired by this experience, I knew I wanted to continue my work with ELs and get my MA in Educational Studies with an ESL certification. I went to the University of Michigan and then came back to Chicago to teach in a public school here. I am so excited for what this year has ahead and hope to stay in the teaching field for a long time!
How will funding help my students?
This is my second year teaching in Chicago Public Schools and I am so excited about my new class of thirty 3rd graders! I will be using the extra funds to purchase lots of new books for the classroom - especially multicultural books and biographies for our biography unit - extra school supplies to keep our classroom equitable, and some math manipulatives for the kiddos who need hands-on learning.
