Years of experience
Students this year
I’ve taught for over 20 years as a Pre-Kindergarten teacher in NYC. This year I am new to Florida and second grade. The transition has been a little hard but I’ve enjoyed it so far. The second grade team is friendly and helpful. I am enjoying working with older children but feel like I am still in a transition. I believe most of that feeling comes from the room feeling incomplete and knowing my students aren’t totally comfortable in some areas of the room due to lack of furnishings and center activities. I would love to give them more opportunities to explore and learn and enjoy that learning.
How will funding help my students?
I work at a title one school and I just moved to the district. The classroom that I recurved came with chairs, tables and computers; nothing else. I’ve spent money of my own to try and create a welcoming environment where they can learn. However, we don’t even have a clean, comfortable rug that seats all the children. There are reading books in the classroom that I’ve gotten on my own, but other than that, there are no other books. I need help mainly with a rug and math and reading centers.
