I've been teaching in the inner-city for a dozen years and it's such a privilege to do what I do and get a salary for it. As a single person, it was easier to provide the little extras for the classroom. As a father of three, it's increasingly hard to do; especially when most donations are directed to lower levels and other programs. I love teaching Spanish, helping students learn new skills and gain perspective regarding their abilities and how they can improve their conditions. People have the misconception that private schools have it all, but on average; private school teacher salaries in the inner-city are 20-30K lower than their public school counterparts.
