Read moreI'm a new teacher with a passion for my content area - music! I recently moved to Maryland from Minnesota upon being hired at a K-5 charter school. This school, formerly a STEM school, has recently began pushing a "STEAM" curriculum, adding emphasis on the A for Arts!
The Tigers and their families have been so welcoming and so eager to support the revamped music program! This is a relatively new charter school, and the music program hasn't had a solid foundation set yet. I feel so privileged to create lessons, units, and programs for more than 630 students! With this privilege comes a lot of ordering and prioritizing. I want so badly for my students to have concerts and programs to show their parents and families that they are distinguished, talented musicians.
Some of my students love to sing, some love to dance, and some are more into playing the instruments. Some students are very insightful when it comes to interpreting the music and sharing how it makes them feel. I hope to highlight all of these talents at our programs and concerts by incorporating multiple elements into each grade's performance throughout the year.
Ultimately, I believe that these kids deserve the absolute best when it comes to their education, and in music education that means having music to learn and read. Help me help my kids become the best musicians they can be!

What will the funds be used for
This funding would go towards music and materials for our programs and concerts. We haven't had many of these in the past, so there's no music to choose from to perform! With this funding, we can purchase and legally perform songs for our concerts - not to mention practice our music reading skills!
