In-person or online, I love to teach music! Last year, I moved to Maryland from Minnesota upon being hired at a K-5 charter school. This STEAM school has quickly become my home, and has further ignited my passion for sharing, exploring, and teaching music.
The Tigers and their families have been so welcoming and so eager to support the revamped music program! This is a relatively new charter school, so I had complete freedom in imagining and creating a new curriculum. I feel so privileged to create lessons, units, and programs for more than 615 students! I want so badly for my students to have concerts and programs to show their parents and families that they are distinguished, talented musicians. There is hope to return to the stage once it's safe again, but I will continue to showcase my students' talents any way I can in the meantime.
Some of my students love to rap or sing, some love to dance, some play instruments, and some have a knack for composing and producing. My students are very insightful when it comes to interpreting the music and sharing how it makes them feel. I hope to highlight all of these talents at our programs and concerts by incorporating multiple elements into each grade's performances/showcases throughout the year.
Ultimately, I believe that these kids deserve the absolute best when it comes to their education, and I will be better equipped to give them my best with more technology available to me. I would also love to continue teaching new music and building our music library so we can take the stage (virtually or in person) whenever we are given the go-ahead!
